On Monday, October 17, 2022 at around 1:43 p.m., Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report that an individual had been shot at 133 Wimbish Rd. Stoneville, N.C.

Upon their arrival, Deputies found Ryan Douglas Burroughs, 34, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Burroughs was located outside, near an outbuilding on the property. At that time, Deputies encountered a male individual who was also on scene and had called 911 to report the incident.

Rockingham County Sheriff’s Deputies began an investigation into the shooting death and discovered that the reporting individual had received permission to be on the property from the property owner at 133 Wimbish Rd. Ryan Burroughs came to the address while the reporting individual was on the property.

Investigators believe Burroughs confronted the reporting individual, produced a handgun and shot several times into the ground before pointing the gun at him, at which time the reporting individual produced a handgun he had on his person and shot Burroughs.

District Attorney Jason Ramey is being consulted about the Investigators findings. Personal identifying Information about the reporting individual is not being released at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
