The City of Danville held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday for the new splash pad at Third Avenue Park. The splash pad is free and open to the community from Monday-Thursday 10am-6pm and Friday-Sunday 10am-8pm.

“The splash pad represents more than just a new facility, it’s a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents,” said Mayor Alonzo Jones, “it’s a place where these beautiful children can play and have fun and their families can gather and their friends can meet and fostering a sense of community that is in the heart of our city.”

The splash pad can accommodate 35 to 45 people at a time.  The water runs for 10 to 15 minutes and then has to be restarted and runs in different zones of the pad.

“The splash pad at Doyle Thomas will be finished in a couple of weeks and then after that we do have a contract out for one at Ballou Park as well, so we are going to see a couple more of these around the city,” said Danville Parks and Recreation Director Bill Sgrinia.

Third Avenue Park holds a special place in the City’s history as one of the first parks and recreation centers established in Danville. The original wading-splash pool, built in the 1960s for just $300, set the precedent for the splash pad Danville is now able to enjoy today.
