DANVILLE, Va. – Officials at Blue Ridge Fiberboard estimate damages at around $180,000 following an early morning fire at the plant on Sunday.

Crews were called to the Celotex Drive business before dawn and found heavy fire in an outdoor storage area filled with piles of finished fiberboard.

Firefighters doused the flames and were assisted by company employees in separating the bundles and putting out the remaining hot spots.

There were no injuries.

It’s believed the fire was caused by a buildup of heat from the processing procedure.

Three engines, one ladder truck, a safety officer, and one chief officer were on the scene for  three-and-a-half hours and received support from the Danville Life Saving Crew.

It was the second fire at the business this month.
On October 17, Danville firefighters responded to the fiber board plant at 250 Celetex Drive at 2:30 a.m and found a fire in a medium-sized building.
The building housed a large asphalt boiler and electric switches, pumps, and panels. The building was on fire, which also included all the electrical equipment. Much of the fire was coming from peanut oil leaking from the boiler.
Damage to the building and its contests was “significant.”
