Danville Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the grand opening of Riverfront Park, Danville’s premier gathering space along the Dan River, on Friday, May 1. Community members are invited to join in celebrating this exciting addition to the city’s riverfront beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a special Park Party open to the public.

“Riverfront Park is a beautiful park, and we are very much looking forward to it being open to the public,” said Bill Sgrinia, director of Danville Parks and Recreation. “A lot of time and effort has gone into the design and construction of this park, and we are very grateful to all the people, organizations, and sponsors who have supported this project.”

Riverfront Park offers a new destination for both residents and visitors, featuring a scenic overlook, playground, waterfront seating, and other amenities. Beginning May 1, the park will officially be open for everyone to enjoy.

“This is the kind of place that brings a community to life,” said Mayor Alonzo Jones. “Riverfront Park has something for everyone, from the scenic overlook and waterfront seating to a playground kids will love, with the otter slide, climbing features, and sprayground. I’m proud of what this park represents and excited for all the ways it will bring our community together.”

The evening celebration will include free activities and interactive information stations located throughout the park, giving attendees the opportunity to explore its amenities while enjoying entertainment for all ages.

Event highlights include:
5:30 p.m. – DJ Matty D kicks off the festivities with music throughout the park
7:00-8:30 p.m. – Live performance by The League of Ordinary Gentlemen
8:30 p.m. – Drone show by BrightwaveFX, lighting up the night sky over the Dan River

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of music, entertainment, and community celebration along the riverfront.
