After months of heartbreak, prayer, and extraordinary volunteer effort, God’s Pit Crew will reveal a brand-new, fully furnished home to Matthew and Jerri Young and their family on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 10:00 am in Spruce Pine, North Carolina.
The Young family was among the many families whose lives were turned upside down after Hurricane Helene devastated communities throughout the mountains of Western North Carolina. Their home was left unsafe and unlivable after severe storm damage made it impossible to remain there. In the midst of their own loss, Matthew and Jerri continued serving others in their community, helping neighbors clear debris and recover in the difficult days that followed.
Now, in just weeks, God’s Pit Crew volunteers have transformed that loss into hope by assembling a new three-bedroom, two-bathroom home for the family. The home was first framed inside God’s Pit Crew headquarters in Danville, Virginia, before being transported to the family’s property in the North Carolina mountains. Since arriving onsite, volunteers have worked tirelessly to complete every detail – painting, building porches, installing appliances, arranging furniture, preparing bedrooms, and filling the home with linens and personal touches that will make it move-in ready the moment the family walks through the door.
“This home represents far more than a new place to live,” remarked God’s Pit Crew President, Randy Johnson. “It represents prayers answered and a reminder that even after tremendous loss, God can bring new beginnings. It has been an honor for our volunteers to serve the Young family and help create a home where new memories can begin.”
This home marks the 47th home God’s Pit Crew has provided for families and individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene. Additional homes are in progress as the ministry continues its long-term commitment to helping families rebuild their lives after disaster.
