A man was killed during an officer involved shooting in Rockingham County on Tuesday. According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, at 8:44 am, a female came to the Rockingham County Magistrates Office to seek a warrant in regard to a domestic violence situation that had occurred at her residence at 191 Dennis Dr. in Reidsville.

It was reported that a firearm was discharged during the domestic situation, and threats were made to do serious bodily harm to the female and any law enforcement officer that came to the residence. A warrant was secured on the 31-year-old male suspect for Misdemeanor Domestic Violence, Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun, and Misdemeanor Communicating Threats.

As deputies attempted to serve the warrants at the residence just before 11 am, they came under gunfire from the interior of one of the windows of the residence. The male suspect then exited the residence from a side door and continued to shoot at the deputies on scene. The deputies returned fire, striking the suspect several times.

Deputies on scene immediately rendered aid to the suspect, who was later pronounced deceased on scene. No deputies were injured during this shooting incident, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was notified immediately per protocol and is currently investigating this officer involved shooting. The male suspects name is not being released at this time pending notification to family.
