
A Pittsylvania County man has been sentenced for the 2024 shooting deaths of his son and daughter-in-law. 65-year-old William Lester Roberts received the maximum sentence of life in prison plus an additional nine years with no time suspended.
Roberts was found guilty in July of two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and one count of discharging a firearm inside a dwelling.
The shootings occurred on June 25, 2024. The 911 center received a call at approximately 9:30pm that two subjects had been shot at 471 River Ridge Rd, in Axton.
When deputies arrived, they found 41-year-old Jason Roberts, of Roanoke, and 39-year-old Ashley Marie Roberts, of Roanoke, deceased from gunshot wounds outside the residence. Those individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. William Roberts was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
