A man was arrested in Henry County after leading deputies on a chase that ended in a fiery crash. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at 10:30 am a man was reported to be trespassing at a property on Craig Road in Bassett.

When authorities responded they found Jason McKinney, 46, sitting in a vehicle. When deputies questioned McKinney he gave them a fake ID. 

McKinney then backed into a patrol vehicle and began to flee. The chase went into the horse pasture area when he then crossed Route 58 into traffic.

He then drove off the road and got stuck in a wooded area, which resulted in the vehicle catching on fire. McKinney did receive minor injuries due to his erratic driving and subsequent crash. He was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville for treatment.

McKinney was arrested shortly after. He was wanted for six felony warrants.

During the arrest of McKinney, a substantial amount of suspected Fentanyl pills was located on him along with an undisclosed amount of U.S Currency.

McKinney was also charged with eluding officers, providing a false ID, and possession of a Scheduled I or II Drug with Intent to Distribute. McKinney is being held in the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
