RICHMOND, Va. – Democrats in Virginia’s Senate have derailed a GOP effort to roll back a series of gun-control measures enacted when their party controlled both chambers and had a Democratic governor.

The must-pass Senate Judiciary Committee shot down several bills that sought to reverse laws passed in 2020 when Democrats controlled all branches of state government.  The committee also rejected proposals making it easier for concealed carry and creating exceptions for permit-holders in gun-free zones.

The Senate is still narrowly controlled by Democrats, who rejected multiple GOP-backed initiatives to reverse bills they marshaled through the General Assembly two years ago.
