DANVILLE, Va. – Danville firefighters responded to a call on James Road early Wednesday morning, just hours after dousing another house fire on 6th Street.

The latest call came in just after 6:05 a.m. The Danville Fire Department reported heavy smoke and fire visible from a home at 151 James Road in north Danville.

The first engine arrived in three minutes with heavy smoke showing all the way around the structure. As crews entered, fire vented from the roof and backside of the house, forcing firefighters to move their attack outside the home. Lines were set up outside and the fire was brought under control.

Three engines and a ladder truck responded along with the fire marshal. The investigation into the fire’s cause is continuing.

Two adults and four children were left homeless by the fire, which caused significant damage to the home. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

All of the occupants were out of the home when crews arrived and no one was injured.

Firefighters remained on the scene for more than three hours.

The call was the second in north Danville in less than 12 hours. About 8:30 Tuesday night, crews were dispatched to a house fire at 757 6th Street.

A smoke detector alerted the family to the basement fire and everyone was out of the home when firefighters arrived. They traced the fire to some furniture in the basement and kept the flames from spreading.

Smoke and heat damage was noted throughout the home. It’s believed the fire was started by a six-year-old.
