(Ringgold, Va.) – Thursday night’s thunderstorms downed a large tree in the 800 block of the Milton Road, blocking traffic for several hours.

Witnesses say a car crashed into the tree. There were no reports of injuries but it took several hours for Ringgold firefighters to remove the tree and the vehicle.

Crews rerouted traffic onto the Riverbend Road until the path was cleared.

Earlier in the day, Virginia State Police responded to a collision in Blairs involving a tractor-trailer and a pick-up truck. The accident happened when an 18-wheeler hauling lumber on U.S. 29 south collided with a pickup pulling out of R & L Smith Road. Traffic was reduced to one lane following the head-on collision.

The driver of the pickup was taken to the emergency room but his condition was unavailable. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

State Police are investigating crash.
