
(Harrisonburg, VA) – Halifax County High School along with one of its educators was recognized during the annual Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety (YOVASO) Awards Banquet, held Saturday, July 19 at James Madison University. The event honored the exceptional work of students, educators, youth groups, businesses, and law enforcement across the Commonwealth in promoting teen driver and passenger safety during the 2024–2025 school year.
Halifax County High School received the Speaking Out and Saving Live Award for showcasing year-round commitment to creative and impactful peer-led programs that promote responsible driving and traffic safety.
Kim Gordon received Sponsor of the year honors for her outstanding leadership, support, and dedication to the development and growth of Halifax’s YOVASO club and its traffic safety efforts.
For the third consecutive year Halifax County High School’s YOVASO club received Outstanding Club recognition for continuing to uphold best practices in peer-to-peer traffic safety education.
Established in 2001, YOVASO is a program of the Virginia State Police and is funded by a grant from the Virginia DMV Highway Safety Office. The organization partners with schools and youth groups statewide to promote safe driving habits and reduce crashes involving teens.
