Pittsylvania County has issued a burn ban starting at noon on Friday, August 24. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has declared Pittsylvania County to be under severe drought conditions.

The burn ban has been put into place due to dry conditions that are favorable for rapid fire spread. The ban will remain in effect until Pittsylvania County announces that is has been lifted.

Violation of the burn ban is punishable as a Class 1 Misdemeanor, which could carry up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
