Virginia State Police is investigating a double fatal crash that occurred over the weekend in Halifax County.

At 9:44 am on Sunday, State Troopers were informed a 1995 GMC Sierra was located in a creek along Mill Pond Road (Route 701).

The investigation shows the Sierra was heading northbound on Mill Pond Road when it went off the road to the left, went down an embankment, and overturned in the creek.  It is believed the crash occurred at approximately 10:00 pm on Saturday.  The vehicle was not visible from the roadway.

The driver of the Sierra, Wayne P. Coles, 54, of Scottsburg, Va., and a passenger, Kenneth S. Young, 63, of South Boston, Va., died at the scene.  Neither Coles nor Young were wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
