Human remains that were found in Galax in September 2022 have been identified as a five-year-old boy that had been missing for over 20 years.

On September 6th, 2022, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Iron Ridge Road in Galax for reported human remains being discovered in a wooded area. Throughout the course of the Investigation, it was determined that the remains had been at this location for an extended period of time.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office obtained the help of Othram Inc., which is a private company based in Texas that specializes in Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing and Forensic Genetic Genealogy. Othram Inc. was able to develop a full DNA profile which allowed them to use Forensic Genetic Genealogy, and two direct DNA comparisons of family members to identify the remains as being Logan Nathaniel Bowman.
Logan Bowman was a 5-year-old child that went missing in Grayson County in January of 2003. Logan’s biological mother Cynthia Davis and her then boy-friend Dennis Schermerhorn were charged in 2003 by Grayson County, in connection with the disappearance of Logan. This is still an ongoing investigation with new charges anticipated.
