Tyson Foods held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday for their new 325,000-square-foot facility in Danville. The facility located at 1725 Cane Creek Parkway is a $300 million investment and will create nearly 400 new jobs in the region.

As part of the project Tyson will purchase 60 million pounds of Virginia grown chicken over the next three years.

The new facility is also the company’s first smart facility. The Danville facility will include 13 fully automated case packing lines and five robotic palletizing cell stacks.

All front line team members will use wearable technology that feature sensors that relay environmental data to identify risk exposure and increase productivity. Tyson has partnered with Danville Community College to create a Maintenance Technology Training Program to help supplement their workforce.

Tyson has already begun giving back in Danville as they have held a frozen food giveaway at the Danville Police Department and the company has adopted an elementary school in Danville.
