On Thursday, US Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine made a major announcement for the City of Danville. The Senators announced that Danville will receive $300,000 in federal funding to help battle the opioid crisis in the city.

The announcement was made as part of International Overdose Awareness Day. The city will receive the funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration’s Rural Communities Opioid Response Program Overdose Response Grant Program.

The program provides funding to address immediate needs in rural areas by improving access to, capacity for, and sustainability of prevention, treatment, and recovery services for substance use disorder.

“The opioid epidemic has had tragic impacts for communities across Virginia, and that’s why we’re committed to ensuring every Virginian has access to high-quality mental health care and substance use disorder treatment, no matter their zip code. We’re glad this funding will help more Virginians in the Danville area access the care they need to recover,” said Warner and Kaine in a statement.
