This Saturday, July 1 the sales and use tax in Pittsylvania County will increase by 1%. This will bring the rate up from 5.3% to 6.3%.

Business owners in the county should receive information from the Virginia Department of Taxation explaining how the increase will be applied.

The 1% increase will not apply to groceries, essential personal hygiene products, agricultural products, and medications. The proceeds from the increase will go towards Pittsylvania County Schools infrastructure needs.
