On Saturday, October 29 at approximately 05:27 AM, the Eden Police Department responded to E Meadow RD at N Hale St for a single motor vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that a 2017 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on Meadow RD at a high rate of speed, ran off the roadway, struck two telephone poles, and came to rest engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Charger was transported to a local Trauma Center for further treatment and the passenger, Daquinton Micrae Tatum, was pronounced deceased at the crash site. As a result of a thorough investigation, it was discovered that prior to the crash, three vehicles were engaged in street racing, eastbound, on Meadow Rd.
Investigators consulted with District Attorney, Jason Ramey, and subsequently obtained arrest warrants on all three drivers for involuntary manslaughter and willful street racing.
Isiah Jahki Brown(21) and Markalan Nyquan Scales(19) of Eden and Raequon Shauntae Gunn(27) of Danville were all issued $10,000 unsecured bonds and will apear in Rockingham County District Court on Nov. 8.
