Danville Public Schools held their State of the District presentation on Tuesday. Superintendent Dr. Angela Hairston opened the meeting by acknowledging some of the challenges the district has faced over the last couple of years stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The district has sought to improve on some of their issues by improving their communication with parents and educators. Hairston noted that the district is one of the few in the state that saw an increase in enrollment last year with over 5,700 students.

During the meeting Hairston showed the five goal areas for the district:

Goal Area I: Student Achievement- The Danville Public Schools will raise student achievement, close the achievement gap, and enable students to take ownership for their learning.

Goal Area II: Operations/Internal Processes- The Danville Public Schools will ensure effective and efficient operations and processes aligned with board policy and supportive of improved working and learning conditions.

Goal Area III: Staff Learning and Growth- The Danville Public Schools will recruit, develop, hire, and retain high quality staff and provide opportunities for  continued learning and professional growth.

Goal Area IV: Stakeholder Engagement and Communication- The Danville Public Schools will strengthen partnerships and communication with families local businesses, educational organizations, community agencies, and advocacy groups in order to engage families and community stakeholders to support improved academic achievement.

Goal Area V: Culture and Climate- The Danville Public Schools will foster and inclusive climate that values the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff and fosters an equitable environment that creates a sense of belonging.
