(Danville, VA) – Five seniors from the George Washington High School Football team committed to continuing their education as well as their athletic careers Wednesday signing letters of intent to colleges across the commonwealth. Surrounded by family, friends, and coaches these young men joined an ever-growing number of GWHS senior leaders to take their games to the next level.
The student athletes and their chosen colleges are as follows:
Will Daniel (TE/LB) – Hampden Sydney College
Jakobi Dixon (RB/DB) – Virginia University Lynchburg
Donovan Howard (WR/DB) – Virginia State University
Ahmad Poole (DL/OL) – Virginia State University
Shawn Reaves(OL/DL) – Ferrum College
Eagles Head Coach Nick Anderson talked about this group of seniors and the challenges they faced as the “COVID Class” as they prepared for their junior year everything was shut down as schools and businesses were forced to adapt to remote learning and social distancing which meant no time in the weight room and no practice time. Add to that coaches inability to recruit new talent to join the team do to lack of interaction these young men stepped up and helped maintain the expectation of continuing the programs growth through their leadership and hard work.
Coach Anderson also took pride in the fact that these young men have a genuine love of the game and not just to please their parents or using their gifts as a steppingstone something that he and his staff strive to impart on players. As he addresses the supporters he said that no matter how far their playing careers go these individuals put a focus on continuing their education by signing the commitment letters.
