EDEN, North Carolina – An Eden woman is recovering from a gunshot wound and a Danville man is a suspect in the shooting.

Eden Police found a woman seriously injured from a gunshot wound early Saturday. Angela Williams was taken to a trauma-care facility, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.

Investigators identify the shooter as Donald Ray Newman of Danville, Virginia. At the time of shooting, there was an outstanding domestic violence protective order against Newman. According to the Greensboro News and record, officials located Newman after he was admitted to a Virginia hospital at around 6 a.m. Saturday.

After consulting with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office, investigators secured an arrest warrant for Newman. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree burglary.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Saturday at 209 Mill Ave. Police say it was a domestic incident.
