WASHINGTON, D.C. – A judge in Washington, D.C. has ordered that former Rocky Mount police officer Thomas “T.J.” Robertson remain in jail until his trial on charges of entering the U.S. Capitol last January after it was overrun by election protesters.

Robertson had been free on bond but was arrested earlier this month after federal agents raided his home in Ferrum and seized an M4 rifle, a partially assembled homemade bomb, silencers and hand grenade fuses.

Robertson had been ordered not to possess firearms as a condition of his bond.

In his decision, federal Judge Christopher Cooper wrote that there were no conditions under which the 48-year-old Robertson could be released from jail. Cooper noted that there was probable cause to believe that Robertson committed a felony by ordering 34 firearms from an online dealer after being told not to possess any guns.

Robertson contends that he never possessed the guns, which he ordered online and had shipped to a dealer in Roanoke who had agreed to hold them for Robertson.

Prosecutors said they are considering bringing additional charges against the former police officer.
