DANVILLE, Va. – A Danville man has been charged with one of three recent fatal heroin overdoses in the city.

Danville Police charged 36-year-old Joshua Allen in connection with an ongoing drug investigation involving a potentially fatal overdose.

On November 27, a family member called 911 to report finding a relative who was unresponsive unresponsive. EMS transported the 29-year-old female to the hospital where she died.

Investigators and crime scene officers believe that Allen distributed heroin to the victim and her death was likely a result of the drug use. Allen was charged with the distribution of a controlled substance.

Allen turned himself into police on December 2 and was released on bond.

Danville Police and the Commonwealth Attorney’s will review potential future charges once the medical examiner’s report is complete. Danville Police will not release the victim’s name until the medical examiner confirms the cause of death.

This was one of three heroin-related deaths that have happened in Danville since November 27.

Police have not said whether Allen is a suspect in the other two deaths.
