DANVILLE, Va. – Staff and patients at Sovah Health are mourning the loss of a Danville surgeon.

Reports to this newsroom indicate Dr. William Sweezer died Wednesday in a motorcycle accident in Tennessee.

Sweezer was a thoracic and vascular surgeon at Sovah Hospitals in Danville and Martinsville. He was an avid motorcyclist who had recently returned to town after working for three years in Houston. Dr. Sweezer had worked previously as a heart surgeon in Danville from 2011-2016.

Sweezer was 70 and had worked as a medical doctor for more than forty years.
