DANVIILE, Va. – Some residents in south Danville were without power Saturday morning, as a result of equipment damage from a recent storm.

Danville Utilities reported the outage just before 9 a.m. and said it is due to a bad lightning arrester damaged in a recent storm.

“Crews proactively noticed it and are replacing the equipment so this prevents a longer outage,” Danville Utilities posted on its Facebook page.

It’s not known how many customers are affected by the outage but the number is in the thousands.

Utility crews had hoped to have power restored within an hour but the damage was more extensive than at first believed and the Utilities Department now expects customers to be without power for several hours.
