DANVILLE, Va. – Galileo High School students were preparing to leave campus when a bomb threat was telephoned to the main office around 3:38 Thursday afternoon. Danville Police conducted a thorough search and declared an “all clear” just after 6:10 p.m.
Police converged on the school as students were evacuated and relocated to the municipal building just down the street. Parents were notified of the incident and instructed to pick up their children at city hall.
No bomb was found during an initial check of the building and a bomb-sniffing dog was brought in to conduct a more thorough search of the classrooms and grounds.
A police spokesman said officers spoke with the person who phoned in the threat and kept the individual on the line for about 20 minutes as officers conducted an orderly evacuation of the school.
He said the case is being handled as a criminal investigation. No suspects have been identified.
