Update as of 6:11pm – Danville Police have declared the school building all clear.

Original Story:

(Danville, VA) – At approximately 3:30 pm Thursday staff at Galileo Magnet High School received a call of a bomb at the school.  The school was placed on Lockdown and a call went out to 911.  Units from the Danville Police Department as well as the Danville Fire Department and the Danville Life Saving crew responded to the school to begin the evacuation process.  The school was still half full of students and faculty at the time the call came in.

Police were able to talk with the individual who made the call while the evacuation was ongoing.  Students were evacuated to Court Street for parent pickup.  Officers and school security personnel did an initial room by room sweep of the building as per the lockdown plan established in conjunction with both departments.  The Virginia State Police was dispatched with bomb sniffing dogs for a more thorough search.

As of last update from the police department no one has been injured, no arrests have been made yet, and no bomb has been found.

We will have more updates as they become available.
