(Mecklenburg County, Va.) – The Mecklenburg County Shereiff’s office has identified the man who drowned in Buggs Island Lake Sunday as 27-year-old Larry Bobbitt of Henderson, N.C.
Bobbitt drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming with his cousin. Both were outside the swim area when they began to experience difficulty. A bystander on the beach tried to rescue the two swimmers. He brought a life jacket for one man, while he tried to help the other victim back to shore. The bystander began experiencing trouble and had to leave Bobbitt behind.
Bobbitt’s body was found around 8:30 Sunday night in 11 feet of water.
