(Blanch, N.C.) — The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of small plane crash in the Blanch community Sunday night.
Caswell Fire and Rescue were dispatched at 7:30 p.m. to the 3100 block of Blanch Road, where the first units on scene found a piper airplane that had crashed on a private airstrip.
Lt. Darrell McLean with the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office confirms that both the pilot and passenger were transported to the Duke University Hospital.
Caswell Fire Marshal Vernon Massengill said the pilot and owner of the plane, a 40-year-old male, was extricated from the wreckage and airlifted by Duke Lifeflight with serious injuries. His 11-year-old son was also taken to Duke Medical Center by ambulance. One was critically injured.
Providence, Milton, and Yanceyville Fire Departments responded to the crash and were on scene until 10:30 Sunday night. Caswell Sheriff’s deputies and the North Carolina Highway Patrol remained at the crash site awaiting the arrival of National Transportation Safety Board investigators.
