The lockdown at Halifax County High School has now been lifted and everyone at the school is safe. The lockdown was initiated after an officer with the South Boston Police Department was performing a community policing walkthrough.

During the walkthrough, the officer was alerted to a student having a possible firearm. Student witnesses identified the male juvenile that was believed to be in possession of the firearm.

During the investigation a lighter made to look like a gun was found and the lockdown was lifted. The student that brought the item to school was arrested and charged.

The lockdown began late Tuesday morning and was lifted at 12:30 pm.
