Six Pittsylvania County residents completed training on February 8 with the Virginia Department of Taxation to serve as members of the Board of Equalization (BOE), the next step required in the property reassessment process. Hearing will begin May 28 and run through July 11, 2024.

The six members, David Norman, Pamela Holley, Aubrey Rosser, Phillip Adams, Glenn Dillion and Donna Gibson, will be sworn in by Pittsylvania County Clerk of Court Angie R. Harris.

The Board of Equalization (BOE) hears from property owners who do not agree with the value of their property assigned during the 2024 reassessment and who did not resolve this dispute during the informal hearings held last fall by Pearson’s Appraisal Service Inc.

To obtain a hearing before the BOE, property owners must make an appointment no later than Friday, March 8 to comply with the Code of Virginia. To make an appointment with the BOE, call 434-432-7726 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointment requests can also be made by email at boe@pittgov.org.

Property owners must have the parcel ID number for all parcels to be considered by the BOE when calling or emailing for an appointment.
The BOE will hear each complaint, either oral or written, and consider whether to increase, decrease or affirm the 2024 assessment amount. Before a change can be granted, the property owner or his/her agent must prove the property’s current assessment/valuation is not uniform with other similar properties; the characteristics of the property are not accurately represented in the County’s real estate database (example: a clerical error) and/or that the property is assessed in a manner inconsistent with the 2023 market value.

Hearing will be held on the following days and times:
