The Danville Police Department is investigating a larceny that occurred at Planet Fitness in the 3300 block of Riverside Drive. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance identifying a female suspect believed to have stolen the contents of a Toys for Tots bin at the location.
On Monday, Dec. 4, a female suspect used false information to obtain the contents of the Toys for Tots donation bin. When the official Toys for Tots representative arrived Monday, Dec. 11, it was at that point they learned that the toys were stolen by the false representation of the female on Dec. 4.
The female suspect left the scene in a white four door Chevrolet sedan with unknown tags, driven by an unknown black male.
The Danville Police Department advises area businesses to be aware of who is picking up donations, and to confirm their information and association with the charity before allowing them to leave with any items.
Anyone who has information is asked to please contact the Danville Police Department by calling patrol at 434-799-6510.
According to Ken Sutton, the assistant coordinator for Toys for Tots, roughly $1,000 worth of toys were taken. In an effort to collect more toys for kids, the drop off deadline at Planet Fitness has been extended to December 23.
“I’m just hoping  that the community steps up as a whole to help find this lady and hopefully she turns herself in so I don’t have to press charges,” said Sutton, “we’re just looking to get the toys back so we can help all these kids out there.”
