Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Halifax County. The crash occurred Oct. 5 at 2:41 pm at the intersection of Route 58 and Route 501.

A 2001 Ford F-250 pickup was traveling east on Route 58 and failed to stop for the red traffic light. The Ford continued into the intersection and struck a 1995 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck that was traveling south on Route 501.

The driver of the Chevrolet, James T. Medley, 67, of Alton, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Ford, James E. Collins, 81, of Baltimore, Md., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
