Three members of the Danville Fire Department recently graduated from statewide leadership academies. Captain J. Satterfield and Captain W. T. Poteat, graduated from the Virginia Chief Officer Academy and Captain J. P. Haymore graduated from the Virginia Fire Officer Academy.

The Virginia Chief Officer Academy is a six day program with 25 participants that are selected from across the state. The academy is to prepare captains for the experience of running a department.

Captain Satterfield praised the experience while speaking with River City TV.

“We were able to be class not only with students from all over the state, but we also had experienced chiefs from all over the state. So just being able to garner their experience and ask those guys and gals questions about what they have done to prepare themselves and to ask what they have done in certain situations at chief officers was really helpful,” said Satterfield.
