
A three-way Danville city council race was too close to call tonight. With all 17 precincts reporting, Bryant Hood holds a razor thin lead. Hood appears to lead in votes against two others in the special election, according to unofficial results Tuesday night. Hood leads with 7,074 votes, former City Councilman Fred Shanks garnered 6,985, and Petrina Carter trailed with 4,141. But about 600 outstanding votes still need to be counted and that could possibly swing the results in favor of Shanks.
Caesar’s will be building a $400 million casino-resort in Schoolfield. The referendum passed by a margin of 70% to 30%. Caesar’s spokesman Tony Rodio said he expected the referendum to pass but was pleased by the numbers. He said “we are extatic and can’t wait to partner with the citizens of Danville.” Rodio says Caesar’s expects to break ground in the second half of next year.
US Senator Mark Warner easily won re-election to a third term the US Senate, beating Republican challenger Daniel Gade. Warner, a former Virginia governor, had a 10-to-1 fundraising advantage.
Democrats will retain control of the House of Representatives and expand their majority by at least five seats. This is a major boost for Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has pledged to roll back much of Trump’s first-term agenda if he loses reelection. Here in the Republican-leaning 5th district, it appears the GOP candidate will carry the day. With 317 of 330 precincts reports, Republican Bob Good has a commanding lead over Democrat Cameron Webb, 60% to 40%
In the presidential race, Democrat Biden leads in the electoral vote count this hour, 129 to 100 for President Trump. 270 electoral votes are needed to win the election.
