PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Two Food Lion groceries were held up on the Southside over the weekend and clerks gave similar descriptions in both robberies.

The first happened Friday night at the Food Lion on the A.L. Philpott Highway in Martinsville. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, a man entered the store Friday evening, approached a cashier and demanded money. He indicated that he had a weapon but no gun was displayed. The robber took an undisclosed amount of money from the register and left the store on foot.

He was wearing dark colored clothing and a blue bandanna. The suspect is about  six feet tall and approximately 180 pounds.

On Saturday night, a man matching the same description robbed the Food Lion in Gretna.

According to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, a man wearing dark colored clothing, a black stocking cap and a blue bandana entered the Gretna Food Lion around 9:00 Saturday night and took an undisclosed amount of cash from two registers.

The robber indicated he had a gun but no weapon was displayed. Investigators say he fled on foot and believe he ran to a car parked some distance from the store.

Customers were in the Gretna Food Lion at the time but no one was harmed.

The suspect was described as a black male, about six feet tall.
