HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – A 23-year-old Halifax man died in a single-vehicle wreck early Saturday morning on MacDonald Road near Scottsburg.

Trooper D.T. Spencer reports that 23-year-old Al’Terique Jemal Gomes was driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring in the westbound lane of MacDonald Road near its intersection with Scottsburg Road at about 9 a.m. when he ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and then ran off the left side of the road, striking several trees.

Gomes, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt, and he was partially ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the North Carolina Highway Patrol confirms that a Sutherlin, Virginia  man has died following a weekend wreck in Rockingham County, N.C. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Brandon Jamal Hollowell died in an accident on U.S. 129, 1.2 miles from southeast Reidsville.
