(Blanch, N.C.) — A father and son who were injured on the family farm near Blanch, N.C. Sunday night remain hospitalized at Duke Medical Center.

40-year-old Irvin Dailey and his son, 11-year-old Grant Dailey, were both extricated from the wreckage of their two-seater plane, which crashed near a private airstrip on the family farm after the aircraft experienced engine problems.

Irvin Dailey was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Durham while his son was transported by ambulance.

According to a Facebook post by a family member, Grant underwent surgery on his jaw and lower lip and is expected to be released shortly. His father, Irvin, has multiple broken bones and underwent 5 hours of surgery Monday afternoon to repair breaks to his right arm and his left leg. Both ankles were dislocated in the crash and will require surgery at a later date. He also suffered several broken ribs and has sternal fractures.

The NTSB is investigating the crash.
