(Danville, Va.) – An argument between a man and his stepson turned violent and both are now facing criminal charges.

It happened just after 10:00 Sunday night in the 100 block of Lexington Ave.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute and found a 29- year-old Danville man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Police say Malcolm Louis Brown got into an argument with his stepfather, 51-year-old James Thomas Preston. Preston grabbed a handgun and confronted Brown over a domestic assault; the two men got into a fight and Preston shot Brown.

Brown suffered a non-life threatening wound and was transported to SOVA Health, where he was treated and released. Brown was charged with domestic assault and battery and was released.

Preston was arrested and charged with unlawful wounding and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling.
