CHATHAM, VA – During a meeting Wednesday of the Pittsylvania County Department of Social Services along with the states Commissioner of the Department of Social Services Duke Storen discussed removing Ron Scearce from the board of DSS.  Scearce acts as liaison from the DSS to the county board of supervisors.  After a request from the board of supervisors the state conducted a review of the facility because of a hostile work environment.  While the assessment found somethings being done correctly there were also some things done incorrectly but none of those were related to a hostile work environment.  Some said this was the Board of Supervisors attempt to “Take over”  Board of supervisor’s chairman Bob Warren said he was disappointed to find out about the discussion and not having the board invited to attend the meetings.  Contrary to assertions made at yesterday’s meeting that the board’s primary aim is to “take over” the PCDSS, the board’s primary objective related to Social Services is, has been, and always will be, ensuring that those in need in Pittsylvania County are being properly served.
