(Henry County, Va.) – A Pittsylvania County man has been charged with murder in the weekend death of a Chatham woman whose body was found inside her burning car.

44-year-old Curtis Trumaine Callaway of Callands, Virginia is charged with second- degree murder and arson in the death of 74-year-old Juanita Dalton. Callaway was arrested in Callands Tuesday by the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and is currently being held in the Henry County jail without bond.

Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry said earlier that Dalton was murdered and that her car was set on fire off Irisburg Road in Axton last Sunday afternoon. Investigators have not said how the woman died or whether she knew Callaway.

Callaway has been in trouble before. In 2010, Callaway was found guilty in Heenry County of assault and battery. He was charged with malicious wounding.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the homicide.
