(Danville, Va.) — A 16-year-old girl was murdered early Sunday morning, as Danville Police investigate the city’s ninth homicide of the year.

Officers were called to the Paxton Street area just after 3 a.m. after police received a call of shot fired at the location.

Within minutes, a 16-year-old girl arrived at Danville Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. She was suffering from gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival by hospital personnel.

Her body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for autopsy.

The victim’s name is not being released at this time because of her age.
