HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – The bodies of a man and a woman have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification after they were found near a car in the Turbeville community of Halifax County.

Virginia State Police responded to what appeared as a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning and discovered two bodies on the ground in the Route 58 median. Investigators found a Nissan Maxima in the median. The bodies of a man and woman were nearby.

At this point, police are calling this a “suspicious death investigation.” The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office is handling the probe.

State Police are working to identify the victims and notify the families.

The incident took place about 10 miles outside the town of South Boston, near the Turbeville fire station on U.S. 58.

Traffic on the highway was restricted to a single lane in each direction Saturday while Virginia State Police gathered evidence.
