(Washington, D.C.) — Rep. Tom Garrett, the Republican who represents Virginia’s sprawling 5th district in the U.S. House of Representatives, will seek re-election this year.

Garrett made the announcement in Washington, D.C. Thursday afternoon, ending speculation that he might not run again. Garrett said that his frustration with the legislative process and Washington bureaucracy led him to consider quitting Congress, but he has decided he’ll continue running for re-election in November.

Garrett was first elected to the seat in November 2016, beating his Democratic challenger Jane Dittmar and capturing 58.2 percent of the vote.

The 5th District covers much of Central and Southside Virginia.
