A severe thunderstorm rocked the southside on Friday afternoon causing many fallen trees and some broken utility poles. Due to the damage, as of 7:30 pm 5,372 Danville Utilities customers are currently without power.

Danville Utilities says that crews are working to restore service, but do to the extent of the damage they will not be able to restore service to everyone tonight. Crews will be working through the night to restore service and assistance has been requested from crews in North Carolina to try and expedite the process.
