Henry County Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Barker tells the Martinsville Bulletin it was a goat that helped two deputies flush out a suspect they were chasing on Feb. 13.

Barker said when a deputy investigating a domestic assault case told the suspect that he was under arrest, the suspect ran off. He went through a fence line and across a field, Barker said.

In the midst of the chase, Barker said a goat on the property joined the deputy. When the deputy and the goat reached the next fence line in the field, the goat continued through the fence in front of the deputy and went into a wooded area in pursuit of the man.

The goat and a deputy on the other side flushed the man out of the woods and he was taken into custody, Barker said.

The goat was returned to its owner, but as for any recognition from the sheriff’s office, Barker couldn’t say.
