
BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The man charged with fatally shooting two law enforcement officers on the Bridgewater College campus in Virginia has been jailed on two counts of capital murder.
At a press conference Tuesday night, Virginia State Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Alexander Wyatt Campbell. His last known address was in Ashland, Virginia.
Campbell has been charged with four felonies: two counts of felony capital murder, one count of felony first-degree murder, and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Campbell is being held without bond in the Rockingham County jail.
Bridgewater College President David Bushman identified the slain officers as Campus Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson. Bushman and said they were close friends known on campus as the “dynamic duo.”
He described their murders as “an unspeakable tragedy.”
