
DANVILLE, Va. – Police are investigating a double shooting in North Danville that left one man dead and another seriously wounded.
It happened about 6:30 Wednesday evening on Rocklawn Avenue.
Danville Police responded to multiple reports of shots being fired in the neighborhood. Officers found 50-year-old Clarence James Martin Jr in front of a home in the 100 block of Rocklawn, suffering from a gunshot wound. Martin was transported to Sovah Health Danville where he died a short time later.
Based on evidence at the scene, police immediately began a homicide investigation.
Within minutes, a 43-year-old Ringgold man arrived at emergency room suffering from gunshot wounds. The second victim was transported by helicopter to another medical facility. He was listed in serious condition.
Based on their initial investigation, police believe both men were shot at the same location on Rocklawn Ave. The Danville Police Department does not believe this was a random act and officers not looking for any further suspects at this time.
The crime scene was being processed and the neighborhood canvassed throughout the evening.
