LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA, (WTOP) — Loudoun County is moving to remove any references to the Confederacy.

WTOP reports that the board of supervisors voted unanimously this week to remove signage and to rename everything the Loudoun County government has control over. That includes roads, buildings, signs and other public infrastructure. Changes are also being made to add language to the local ordinance that covers how new county roads are named.

The effort will begin with Jeb Stuart Road, which has honored Confederate General James “Jeb” Stuart since 1962. Fort Johnston Road west of the Town of Leesburg will also be renamed. That road commemorates a Civil War-era fort named for Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston.
